L. Frank Baum

L. Frank Baum was an American author who created the Land of Oz, beginning with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) — the first in a series of fourteen Oz novels. He envisioned the book as a distinctly American fairy tale, free of the darkness of European tradition. He also wrote under multiple pseudonyms, worked as an actor, a playwright, and a chicken farmer, and founded one of early Hollywood's first production companies to film his stories. The 1939 MGM musical has made his creation one of the most recognized fictional worlds ever imagined.
