A. A. Milne

A. A. Milne was a British author best known for creating Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), based on his son Christopher Robin's stuffed toys. Before his children's books he was a successful West End playwright and a staff writer for Punch. He served in both World Wars and was a committed pacifist. His plays, including Belinda and The Dover Road, have their own modest reputation, but his fictional bear has so thoroughly overshadowed everything else that most readers are surprised to learn of his theatrical career.
