Stephen Vincent Benét

Stephen Vincent Benét was an American poet and fiction writer who won two Pulitzer Prizes — for John Brown's Body (1928), a verse epic of the Civil War, and posthumously for Western Star (1943). His short story 'The Devil and Daniel Webster' (1936) is one of the most celebrated American stories. He wrote radio scripts and patriotic material during World War Two, exhausting himself in the effort; he died of a heart attack at forty-four.
