Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist whose Little Women (1868-69) — drawn from her own experience growing up in Concord, Massachusetts, with her philosopher father Bronson Alcott and her sisters — has been continuously in print for over 150 years. She was a committed abolitionist who served as a Civil War nurse (and contracted typhoid from which she never fully recovered) and an early feminist. She also wrote sensational thrillers under pseudonyms, unknown in her lifetime.
