Laura Fitinghoff was a Swedish author whose novel Barnen ifrån Frostmofjället (Children of the Moor, 1907) — the story of seven orphaned siblings crossing the Swedish winter wilderness to reach their grandparents — is one of the most beloved and enduring works of Swedish children's literature. Its combination of lyric nature description and unsentimental portrayal of poverty and hardship gives it a quality quite unlike the more comfortable tradition of children's books.
