Willa Cather

Willa Cather was an American novelist whose best work — O Pioneers! (1913), The Song of the Lark (1915), My Ántonia (1918), Death Comes for the Archbishop (1927) — depicted immigrant settlement on the Nebraska prairies, artistic life, and the American Southwest with lyric precision and structural control. She won the Pulitzer Prize for One of Ours (1922). She lived for thirty-nine years with Edith Lewis; her sexuality and identity have been subjects of considerable critical attention and ongoing debate.
