Marie L. McLaughlin

Marie Louise McLaughlin was the wife of James McLaughlin, long-time Indian agent at Standing Rock Reservation, and spent three decades living among the Sioux people. Her collection Myths and Legends of the Sioux (1916) gathered stories heard over that period and is an important early document of Plains Indigenous oral tradition, compiled by someone with unusual access to Native storytelling.
