Henry Arthur Jones

Henry Arthur Jones was a British playwright who, alongside Arthur Wing Pinero, was the leading figure of late Victorian serious drama before Shaw displaced them both. His plays including The Middleman (1889) and The Liars (1897) engaged with social questions and moral hypocrisy in ways that prepared English audiences for Ibsen. He had a famous public dispute with Shaw over the nature of dramatic art.
