Carlo Collodi

Carlo Collodi was the pen name of Carlo Lorenzini, a Florentine journalist and satirist who created Pinocchio. The Adventures of Pinocchio was first published serially in an Italian children's newspaper (1881-1883) and became one of the most translated and adapted books in history. Collodi originally killed Pinocchio at the end of the first installment — readers' protests persuaded him to continue. His earlier career included journalism, satire, and translations of French fairy tales. He never knew how famous his puppet would become.
