Tomás de Iriarte

Tomás de Iriarte was a Spanish Enlightenment author best known for his Fábulas literarias (Literary Fables, 1782) — verse fables about the arts and literary world using Aesopian animal parables to satirize bad critics, plagiarists, and mediocre artists. He was a royal archivist and translator, and engaged in a famous literary quarrel with his rival fabulist Samaniego. He also translated French plays into Spanish and wrote the musical comedy El señorito mimado.
