Wilhelm Hauff

Wilhelm Hauff was a German Romantic author who died at twenty-five, leaving three Märchen-Almanachs (fairy-tale almanacs) that became classics of German children's literature. His stories — Der kleine Muck, Zwerg Nase (Dwarf Nose), Das kalte Herz (The Cold Heart), Das Wirtshaus im Spessart — combine Romantic imagination with sharp moral clarity in a way that has kept them in print for nearly two centuries. He also wrote the satirical novel Memoirs of Satan.
