George Ade

George Ade was an Indiana-born American playwright and humorist whose Fables in Slang (1899) — vernacular moral tales in which Proper Nouns Are Capitalized For Effect — were among the most popular American comic writing of their generation. His Broadway comedies The Sultan of Sulu (1902) and The College Widow (1904) were enormous commercial successes. He was Mark Twain's choice as the heir to American comic tradition. He retired early and spent his later years on his Indiana farm.
