Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, an Oxford mathematics lecturer whose Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865), Through the Looking-Glass (1871), and The Hunting of the Snark (1876) are the supreme achievements of English literary nonsense. He invented nonsense that follows its own logical rules: every impossibility in Wonderland is internally consistent. He was also a pioneering portrait photographer and an inventor of word games and mathematical puzzles. The original Alice was Alice Liddell, daughter of his dean.
