Hesiod

Hesiod was one of the earliest Greek poets and one of the most important: his Theogony (the genealogy of the gods) and Works and Days (moral and practical wisdom in verse) are our primary sources for Greek mythology and religion. Unlike Homer's epics, which narrate heroic stories, Hesiod's poems address cosmic origins and the ethics of farming life, giving them an unusual documentary value. He is the first European poet to name himself in his work.
