Saki

Saki was the pen name of Hector Hugh Munro, a Scottish journalist and short story writer whose tales of Edwardian country-house life combine wit, cruelty, and a love of the supernatural in a way unique in English literature. 'Sredni Vashtar,' 'The Open Window,' 'The She-Wolf,' and 'Gabriel-Ernest' feature children who murder adults, guests who are werewolves, and weasels who grant wishes — all described in prose of crystalline precision. He enlisted as a private in World War One at age forty-three and was killed by a German sniper in France.
