Edgar A. Guest

Edgar Guest was a British-born American newspaper poet whose syndicated 'Breakfast Table Chat' column reached an estimated 300 million readers at its peak in the 1920s and 1930s. Called 'the People's Poet,' his simple rhymes celebrating home, family, optimism, and ordinary life were enormously popular with a mass readership that the literary establishment dismissed. 'It takes a heap o' living in a house t' make it home' is his most famous line. He published dozens of collections and was appointed Michigan's first Poet Laureate.
