Juan Ramón Jiménez

Juan Ramón Jiménez won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1956, recognized as the poet who renovated modern Spanish poetry through Symbolist and later Pure Poetry aesthetics. His Platero y yo (1914) — a series of prose poems about a poet and his silver donkey in the Andalusian town of Moguer — is one of the most beloved works in Spanish literature. He spent the last twenty years of his life in exile after the Spanish Civil War, living in Cuba, the United States, and Puerto Rico.
