Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame was a Scottish author best known for The Wind in the Willows (1908) — the story of Mole, Rat, Badger, and Mr. Toad along an English riverbank — which began as bedtime stories for his son Alastair. He worked for most of his career as Secretary of the Bank of England. His earlier books The Golden Age (1895) and Dream Days (1898) — lyric evocations of Edwardian childhood — introduced the imaginative world that culminates in the Willows. A. A. Milne adapted it as Toad of Toad Hall.
