The Wind in the Willows

by Kenneth Grahame from 1908

About

Grahame's The Wind in the Willows (1908) is among the most beloved English children's books and a work of unusually beautiful prose: the adventures of Mole, Rat, Badger, and the incorrigible Mr. Toad along the River Bank. The famous 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' chapter — in which Mole and Rat have a mystical encounter at dawn — is one of the most beautiful passages in English children's literature. As group reading, the four animal characters give natural voices; 'Toad of Toad Hall' works brilliantly as ensemble performance.
