搜神記 (Records of the Supernatural) Vol. 1-3
by Gan Bao from c. 317–322 CE
About
Gan Bao's Soushen Ji (Records of the Supernatural, c. 317-322 CE) is the most important collection of supernatural fiction in the classical Chinese tradition: 464 tales of ghosts, demons, transformed beings, divine intervention, and the permeable boundary between the living and the dead. Stories are brief (a paragraph to a page) with a matter-of-fact tone that makes the supernatural more rather than less uncanny.
