Engelbert Humperdinck

Engelbert Humperdinck was a German composer best known for his opera Hänsel und Gretel (1893), which became one of the most beloved works in the operatic repertoire. He was a protégé of Wagner, helping prepare the score of Parsifal for its Bayreuth premiere. His operatic fairy tale combines Wagnerian orchestral technique with German folk melody to create a work of unusual warmth and popular appeal.
