Emilio De Marchi

Emilio De Marchi was a Milanese novelist and writer who combined Catholic values with a warm sympathy for ordinary Lombard life. His novel Demetrio Pianelli (1890) is considered one of the finest Italian novels of the period, following a selfless civil servant who sacrifices his own happiness for his dead brother's family. De Marchi wrote with genuine tenderness for his characters and without the clinical detachment of the Italian verismo school.
