Edwin Arlington Robinson

Edwin Arlington Robinson was an American poet who won three Pulitzer Prizes (1922, 1925, 1928) and was the most respected serious poet in the United States during the 1920s, before the modernists displaced him. His gallery of failed, isolated, and quietly desperate characters in the fictional New England town of Tilbury — Richard Cory, Miniver Cheevy, Flammonde — are among the most memorable portraits in American poetry. He lived in poverty for much of his early career; Theodore Roosevelt admired his work and got him a customs house job in 1905.
