Through the Looking-Glass

by Lewis Carroll from 1871

About

The sequel (1871) is even more formally inventive than the original: the looking-glass world is organized as a chess game, with each chapter a move on the board. Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the White Queen, Humpty Dumpty, the Red Queen's race — Carroll inverts the original's card-world with mirror logic and some of the best nonsense poetry in English, including 'The Walrus and the Carpenter' and 'Jabberwocky.' As group reading, the many distinct characters give even more ensemble opportunity than Alice.
