Ballads of a Cheechako
by Robert W. Service from 1909
About
Service's second Yukon collection continues the adventure ballads of his debut, with more stories of prospectors, gamblers, and hard men in the far north. 'Ballad of the Black Fox Skin' and other poems match the narrative drive of his first book. Service was the most widely read poet in North America in the 1910s, and his popularity has never entirely faded — the narrative energy of these poems makes them ideal for performance.
