The second Father Brown collection continues the formula with even more assured plotting: 'The Absence of Mr. Glass,' 'The Strange Crime of John Boulnois,' and 'The Man in the Passage' are among Chesterton's most ingenious mysteries. The philosophical depth of the first volume becomes somewhat more systematized here, but the individual stories are consistently entertaining and the character of Father Brown — simultaneously humble and devastating — never loses its interest.
