The Metamorphoses of Ovid, Books VIII-XV
by Ovid from c. 8 CE
About
The second half of Ovid's Metamorphoses includes Midas, Orpheus and Eurydice, Pygmalion, Arachne, Hercules, and the narrative's climax with the deification of Julius Caesar. These are among the most dramatically complete of the Metamorphoses myths and work well as individual readings. As a group text, the Orpheus and Eurydice story (Book X) is particularly beautiful.
Translated from the original Latin by Henry Thomas Riley.
