Old Indian Days

by Charles A. Eastman (Ohiyesa) from 1907

About

Eastman's companion volume to The Soul of the Indian — fictional stories based on traditional Sioux life before European contact — gives narrative form to the world his grandmother described to him. The warrior and woman stories reconstruct pre-reservation Lakota life with ethnographic accuracy and genuine literary power. As group reading, individual stories (30-45 minutes) give access to a world rarely represented in the literary tradition.
