Aladdin and the Magic Lamp

by (anon.) from c. 1710 (first printed; oral origin earlier)

About

The most beloved story from The Thousand and One Nights: a poor youth acquires a lamp housing a djinn and uses it to win a princess, then must defend his happiness against a sorcerer's revenge. The story — a later addition to the Arabic Nights, possibly of European origin — has generated operas, ballets, pantomimes, and a Disney feature. As group reading, Aladdin, the Djinn, the princess, and the Sorcerer give natural character voices.

Translated from the original Arabic.
