Libahunt: Draama viies vaatuses (The Werewolf)
by August Kitzberg from 1912
About
August Kitzberg's Libahunt (The Werewolf, 1912) is one of the foundational works of Estonian drama: a rural community's superstitious fear of a young woman suspected of being a werewolf becomes the vehicle for a tragedy of social exclusion, prejudice, and destroyed love. The play draws on Estonian folk belief while using the werewolf myth allegorically to examine how communities destroy those who are different from them. It remains the most frequently performed Estonian play and a touchstone of the national dramatic tradition.
