Contes de la Montagne

by Erckmann-Chatrian from 1860

About

Erckmann-Chatrian produced some of the finest horror and supernatural fiction in nineteenth-century French literature: stories set in Alsace and the Rhineland drawing on Germanic folk mythology, ghost legend, and wartime trauma. The mountain tales combine realistic precision with genuine uncanny atmosphere. Individual stories (30-45 minutes) work well for campfire-style performance.
