Aesop's Fables
by Aesop from c. 620–560 BCE (Aesop)
About
This edition of Aesop is distinguished by Chesterton's introduction — one of the finest short essays on the nature and function of the fable as a literary form. Chesterton argues that fables are the most democratic of literary forms because they assume wisdom is available to everyone. The introduction alone (15-20 minutes) is worth reading aloud before the fables themselves.
Translated from the original Greek.
